Comprehensive disaster recovery solution for Cats Protection
Founded in 1927, Cats Protection is the UK’s leading feline welfare charity, helping around 200,000 cats and kittens every year. It is dedicated to rescuing and re-homing stray, unwanted or homeless cats and educating people about cats and cat welfare. It has a network of over 250 volunteer-run branches, 36 centres and a flagship adoption centre in Chelwood Gate, East Sussex which is also home to its administrative offices.
Given the vital nature of its work, the charity knew it needed a comprehensive disaster recovery solution to ensure that, should there be a power outage, its data and IT equipment would be both secure and accessible. As Cat Protection’s technology partner, Keysource were chosen to develop and deliver the solution.
The two-week project involved the supply and installation of critical power infrastructure, as well as all associated technology and IT equipment.
To ensure there was no disruption to the existing operations or infrastructure, all works were carefully scheduled. The location, which was on a mezzanine with load and space constraints, was a further challenge.
To further ensure operational continuity, Keysource is also providing a 3-year maintenance contract which includes annual checks by a qualified engineer and 24/7 emergency response.

“The security and accessibility of our IT equipment and data is paramount as we are increasingly dependent on technology to manage our operations and support our critical business functions. Without this we would be unable to continue the valuable work we do: finding good homes for cats in need; supporting and encouraging the neutering of cats; and improving people’s understanding of cats and their care. We selected Keysource for this project based on their experience in critical environments and found the team to be knowledgeable and innovative. The project was a complete success in every way and we are enjoying our ongoing relationship with them. This was an area in which we have limited knowledge and they have given us valuablepeace of mind.”
