Oliver Lunnon
Operations Administrator

I joined Keysource on a three-week temporary contract, helping with archiving and setting up laptops for new joiners. This was my first experience in an office environment, and while the tasks were straightforward, they gave me invaluable insight into how operations work behind the scenes. My contract was extended to three months, and I was later offered an apprenticeship within the Operational Services Team.

Having done my GCSEs during the COVID pandemic, I wasn’t given the opportunity to sit my exams, which meant I had to retake them at college. Although I passed Maths and English, I quickly realised that traditional studying wasn’t the right fit for me, so I decided to leave my A-Level studies. That decision turned out to be a real turning point for me, leading me to a fantastic opportunity at Keysource that has shaped my career path in ways I couldn’t have anticipated.

Now in my third year at Keysource, having completed my apprenticeship, I still thoroughly enjoy my role. The company’s supportive and collaborative culture has helped me build strong relationships with my colleagues, and I’ve been able to continually develop my skills.

During my time here, I’ve had the opportunity to support almost every department, which has given me a deeper understanding of the business and helped me develop my adaptability and collaboration skills by working with teams across the company.

Keysource has provided me with incredible opportunities for both personal and professional growth, from traveling across the UK to working on exciting international projects in Europe. Their commitment to my development has been unwavering, and I’m excited for the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead as I continue my journey with the company.

Jon Healy
Chief Operating Officer

I joined Keysource in October 2005 as a Graduate Engineer. I can still remember my interview with the MD – he asked me to tell him about my dissertation. As an Electrical and Electronic Engineer, I had based it on ‘the Miller effect’ – the amplification effect of capacitance, which I used to make a radio.  I mention this as I like to think the passion he saw in me when I was explaining the work that went into discovering, planning, testing and executing my thesis were the characteristics that bagged me the job.

As a developing engineer with Keysource, I was fascinated by the products we used, how they worked and how they were selected. I set about understanding components which made up data centre solutions including generators, uninterruptible power supplies (UPS), air conditioning systems, fire suppression systems and monitoring solutions.

After a few years “earning my stripes”, I moved into a sales engineer role which combined my solution skills with cost development and shaping propositions. On premise data centres were still very popular at the time and I got to work with a wide range of businesses to help deliver solutions to best suit their next generation of IT from central government, insurance, transport, utilities, oil & gas and banking.

As my career progressed with Keysource I took on more responsibility for sales, our service offering to our customer and latterly the operational management of the business.

I am now a Board Director and have seen our growth strategy coming to fruition. I’m fortunate to have had the opportunity to gain broad experience during my tenure, because this is something Keysource encourages and gives the flexibility to do.  It is a fun and challenging place to work.

I  personally continue to be challenged in an industry where change is constant.

Richard Clifford
Director of Solutions

I joined Keysource two years after graduating from the University of Sussex. I wanted a job that would better utilise my BSc in combined IT and Electronics, and in a forward-looking industry that could help the environment.

I found Keysource, and started as a Graduate Internal Sales Engineer. What an experience! The learning curve was steep; I had no clue what any of the acronyms meant, or even what a Data Centre was, but I have never looked back.

Throughout my time at Keysource, I have found the best way of learning is ‘on the job’. No one is perfect, and people will always make mistakes. The important thing is to surround yourself with great people who will help you to catch those mistakes and, more importantly, to learn from them. That never changes no matter how far along you are in your career …. we are always learning!

I have now been with Keysource for 14 years, and can honestly say that I’ve enjoyed every moment. We operate in a true team environment, and are lucky to be in an industry that is so essential to supporting modern life. During my tenure it’s gone from being a ‘niche’ industry to the newest ‘utility’ – one that sits alongside, water, power, oil and gas.

Keysource provides opportunities to all staff. I have been involved with projects such as supporting a Tech UK Government advisory team on sustainability, making key note presentations, and working on international projects in USA, Germany, Singapore, Hong Kong, China, Dubai and the Arctic Circle.

Keysource really wants to help people to access this growing industry, and develop themselves to be the best that they can be. I’m proud to be part of an organisation that. is committed to my progress and development, as well as working in an industry that is changing the way we live and contributing to so much ground breaking research.

Steve Lorimer
Group Technical Director

I joined Keysource in November 2004, having spent a year searching for the right job after completing my degree in Engineering from the University of Exeter.

As with many graduates, I was not clear on the direction I wanted to take. However, the lure of a job in a fast-changing and evolving industry which touched on many aspects of engineering drew me towards Keysource.

I began in a hybrid role, acting as both a sales support engineer and project engineer. There was a lot to learn, but the opportunity to be involved in the  full engineering cycle of a critical datacentre facility had me hooked.

It was this exposure to all elements of the project – from early project client engagement, to design, through installation  and testing, then witnessing, testing and commissioning – that helped me to grow and nurture a diverse skillset.

I progressed into a senior sales engineer role, mentoring our newly recruited graduates, whilst simultaneously growing both the design and professional services capability of the business.

At Keysource, we work with a vast array of customers across various industries. These include small businesses and local authorities, large multinational blue chip companies and specialist high performance systems used by research and development institutes. The opportunities are countless!

Keysource has helped me to gain experiences across the wider sector, including assisting in evolving data centre standards and best practices. During my time, I have  progressed to my current role where I’m involved in both strategic engagement with clients and overall technical governance across the Keysource group.

I am extremely proud to have the opportunity to work within both an evolving business and an industry that has enabled me to grow and diversify mine and others’ skillsets.
